Clinical Trials Overview

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials offer patients and their families the latest weapons to fight cancer. North Star Lodge Clinical Trials Department participates in over 40 clinical trials relating to treatment, prevention, and quality of life.

We offer trials in all phases of research. There are trials open for just about every type of cancer including Phase I and II Trials which test for dose and effectiveness and Phase III Trials that compare the current treatment for a type of cancer against a new treatment that has shown merit in a Phase I or II trial.

Our national partnerships with other cooperative trial groups, along with pharmaceutical sponsored trials initiated directly with our collaboration with the US Oncology Research Network, give us access to the nation's largest integrated cancer research platform with a broad range of industry trials and novel therapies.

North Star Lodge has participated in over 200 trials since its beginning in 1991. One national trial of note involves 60 patients who participated in the STAR Breast Cancer Prevention Study, which accrued 22,000 patients nationally. Among the local patient pool, 11 went on for and extensive testing on the effects of treatment/drugs on cognitive aging.

In January, we became a part of an elite group of US Oncology affiliated centers participating in Phase I research trials. This new affiliation allows us to offer new drugs to our patients at an early stage of their development.
